The War
As we discuss the various issues in the course, we will examine military operations. Most of these will involve U.S. troops, with the exceptions of the first, Dien Bien Phu, and the last, the Ho Chi Minh Offensive. The military engagements included will not be a complete picture, nor even necessarily be what are considered by some the most important military actions in Vietnam. Instead we will examine selected operations which, taken on the whole, will provide a look at the escalation and descalation of the conflict from the United States' point of view. Military operations will be included with issues, where appropriate.
