Create Your Own Podcast
Podcasts are audio broadcasts that are available on the Internet. Podcasts can be downloaded and listened to anytime in iTunes or on iPod. This workshop will teach you the basics of creating a Podcast. This workshop will show you how to easily create a Podcast using Apple's GARAGEBAND.

Sharing Images with Flickr
Do you know how easy it can be to share your images on the web? In this workshop, I will show you how to upload images to flickr, a popular image sharing application. flickr is a powerful, relatively easy-to-use and searchable web application where you can upload, edit, and share images with others. You can also interact with other peoples’ images by making comments. The great thing about flickr is you get to decide which of your images are to be public, private, or reserved to friends, or you can share them with a flickr group. Attendees will get to create basic user accounts, upload images they bring with them, and if time permits, we’ll edit some as well.

Wimba Voice: Bringing a discussion board to life with sound
Wimba Voice is an exciting collection of audio tools that can be embedded in a Blackboard course to allow voice recording and/or playback. This workshop provides a hands-on demonstration of Wimba Voice Board. Voice Board allows faculty and students to record, listen, and build text discussions, community or private, based on these recordings. It can be set up to allow for an entire class to record and share or to allow for a one - on - one connection between professor and student. With Wimba it’s very easy to import audio files in .mp3 or .wav format. You can also export all voice board recordings out of Blackboard.

Blogs and Online Forums (phpBB)
This workshop provides an overview and demonstration of blogs and discussion forums. Blogs and discussion forums can be highly effective communication tools that help build and enable communities. Blogs are an established academic technology at Skidmore. They are often used to allow a student’s voice to narrate and to share images with a community that can post comments. This Fall we introduced the discussion forum phpBB which is being used in courses but also by Skidmore community groups. These forums allow members to post, make comments, and share multimedia. Most importantly, they can be public or private.

Blackboard for Beginners: The Basics
This workshop will introduce faculty to the Blackboard Content Management System. It focuses on good instructional design and learning how to add basic content to your course such as syllabus, assignments, readings, and important dates. If possible bring these items in electronic form to add to your course.

Mail Merge Using WORD
Microsoft Word makes it easy to create mass mailings using the Mail Merge feature. Participants in this workshop will learn how to create a form letter, enter, sort and select records from an Excel spreadsheet, merge it into the letter. Similarly, you can create envelopes and/or labels for these mailings. Another option is to perform a merge in an email(message or attachment.)

Make WORD work for you with Templates
Creating documents in Microsoft Word can be made a lot easier by using templates. Participants will be taken step-by-step through the creation process using the many useful templates already built-in to Word and also available as a free download on Microsoft's website.

Adobe Acrobat & the Power of PDFs
This workshop will focus on using Adobe Acrobat to create and modify PDF documents. Topics include scanning a print document into a PDF, converting a WORD document into a PDF, navigating through pages, editing text, saving PDF documents to other formats and posting PDFs to your website.

Access Database: Tables & Queries
With this relational database, you can store, organize and manipulate large collections of data in an electronic format. This type of format allows you to extract data with ease. It can be a little intimidating when you first begin to use it. This class covers the first crucial steps to creating a database. You will learn how to create tables and determine what data should reside in the relational tables. You will then learn how to dissect the data through the use of queries.

Access: Forms and Reports
This workshop will cover the visual parts of the database. Forms display table/query results in a formatted view, or are used for data entry. Reports are the formatted display of table or query contents for printing. You'll learn the design of forms/reports using wizards and editing the results to make a user-friendly interface.

Mac iPhoto Basics
This workshop will focus on Apple's easy-to-use application for importing, organizing, editing and sharing digital photos. Whether you have 20 or 20,000 digital photos, iPhoto 4 keeps track of them all, automatically organizing them so you can find them fast. Learn how to import photos from your camera, organize them into albums, enhance their appearance, print, send via email, post on the web or send to Apple for a custom-made photo album.

Historic Census Data: NHGIS and Social Explorer
The National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) provides, free of charge, aggregate census data and GIS-compatible boundary files for the United States between 1790 and 2000. Social Explorer allows online mapping of NHGIS data.

iClickers: Engagement & Feedback
This workshop will provide a full hands-on demo of clickers. We will discuss questions such as: how does it work, what can it do for me and my students? How are faculty using them and why? Clickers are being used in a variety of contexts. We will also discuss scenarios where clickers have or can work especially well. At the end of this workshop, you will be able to start using clickers in your next lecture.

Streaming Video for the Web
Prerequisite: Streaming only works on the Mac. This workshop will NOT cover image or video production. Attendees are encouraged to attend the iMovie basics workshop held on 11/12. Please bring video clips in .mov format to upload to the streaming server. Skidmore has a fabulous streaming server available to faculty who wish to share video clips with students. There are many advantages to using streamed video over unstreamed video that will be discussed. It can play faster and takes up far less server space to name but a few. We will demonstrate and walk you through the process. Once a clip is uploaded, its URL can be inserted into Blackboard as web link or it can be linked to any website.
