Fraud results when you post messages
that deliberately mislead other individuals or the news software about your
identity or your authority at the College.
It is important to note that
it is common practice in some newsgroups to post messages anonymously.
Anonymous posting is NOT fraud so long as your pseudonym or alias does
not misrepresent yourself.
Some examples:
- Forged cancels
- A user attempts to stifle
dissent by forging cancel messages to erase any postings that disagree
with his/her position.
- Misrepresentation of
authority
- A user claims in his/her signature file to be the president
of the College's Student Government Association when he/she does
not hold that position.
- Misidentification of
self
- A user attempts to misdirect complaints to another individual
by forging the other person's name onto the controversial messages.
- Plagiarism
- A user misrepresents other
people's writings as his/her personal work.
