New Faculty Only
Summary
This is the procedure to create a Skidmore College computer account on-line.
Critical Information – Before You Start
Some people go by their middle name. For example, Millicent Amy Smith may tell people that her name is Amy rather than Millicent.
To avoid confusion, she wants her username to be asmith rather than msmith.
Note: If you routinely use your middle name in place of your first name and would like your username to reflect this, please contact the help desk before you create your account. We may be able to accommodate your preference.
Applicability
This document applies to new faculty who have no computer accounts at Skidmore College.
If you already have a Skidmore College computer account, please leave this page.
Start with Human Resources
Human Resources needs to know about you so they can create a record in the employee database.
A record cannot be created for you unless you have a signed contract or other appointment letter on file in the Dean of Faculty's Office and you have filled out and returned the standard New Employee and payroll forms.
How do I know if HR has created my record?
If you have been entered in the database, you will have an employee ID number. See the next step.
What is my Skidmore ID number?
If you have a Skidmore photo ID card, find the 6 or 7 digit number on the card and skip to "Choose a password for yourself."
Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
If you do not have a social security number, call the computer help desk: (518) 580-5931. The following form will not work if you do not have a social security number. However, the help desk can look up your alternate number to use in account creation.
If you do have a social security number:
Choose a password for yourself.
The password rules are here (http://www2.skidmore.edu/cits/policies/password-rules.cfm).
Please read the code of ethics.

Create your Oracle and email accounts.
Armed with the above information (ID and new password), follow this link to create your accounts.
The "Skidmore ID" is the number you found on your ID card or via the link above.
Your ID must be 7 digits long; if you have 6 digits, please use a zero on the beginning for a total of 7 digits.
The birth date needs to be in American format with the month first. Use 2 digits for day and month; 4 digits for the year.
Please Wait
Once your accounts are created, please wait at least 10 minutes for a behind-the-scenes update of your records.
If you try your new account too quickly, you may receive an "unauthorized user" error.
You might also be locked out of your account so that you will need to wait 3 hours for an automatic release or you may call the help desk to be unlocked.
When the process is complete, you will have computer accounts for login and email. In your case, login means logging into campus owned computers, the Oracle Student System, employee benefits including pay stubs in Oracle, WebCT if you have courses setup, and your email program.
Until your office computer is setup and then later when you are traveling, you may use Outlook Web Access for email on the Web.
Getting to email on the web
Use a browser to go to http://owa.skidmore.edu
Outlook Web Access has the most features with Internet Explorer in Windows, but it also works with Firefox and Safari.
You may hear us call Outlook Web Access the abbreviated name OWA.
Logging into OWA
As you log in, choose private computer to avoid automatic timeouts.
In public spaces, log in with public or shared computer. Then if you accidentally walk away without logging out, an automatic timer will end your session.
Your email address is your username@skidmore.edu, kchenlee@skidmore.edu, for example.
When you log into college resources, use only the username, such as kchenlee. Leave off the @skidmore.edu
Your address and your username are all lower case. You password is a mix of upper and lower case as well as one or more numbers and a special character.
