Recommendations and Information Purchasing
Software for Institutional Use:
If
you are in the market to purchase software for institutional
use, the Computer Depot recommends that all Skidmore affiliates
refer to the following pages. Although IT has compiled a list
of supported software, it is recommended that you call the Depot
regarding any software not listed.
IT
suggests that before making any software purchases, the department
contacts the Depot to determine:
- If
your machine meets the minimum requirements
- Whether
or not Education Volume Licenses are available (discounted
bulk licenses)
- If
you are paying the appropriate educational price on shrink-wrapped
software (boxed versus volume licensing)
- If
you are purchasing the software appropriate for your needs
- If
you
and/or your department is aware of support/nonsupport issues
regarding the software to be purchased
Although
there are a variety of vendors to choose from, Skidmore recommends
purchasing software through Software
House International (SHI) for those software applications
not offered by the Computer Depot. SHI offers educational volume
discounts for Macromedia and Adobe products and competitive
discounts on most software applications; however the Depot will
make additional purchasing recommendations where necessary,
based on the best possible price and solution for your needs.
