Critical First Steps:
These directions are for a Windows PC, not an Apple Macintosh computer.
Download the program or have it nearby on a CD.
The download URL is http://www.skidmore.edu/cits/vpn-login-only/sav-xp.exe
You must be an administrator of your computer to install this software.
If you have any other antivirus program, you must uninstall it before proceeding.
Quit all software applications and save your work.
Installing Symantec Antivirus
1. Download the installation file or find it on a CD that you got at the help desk in Scribner Library.
2. Double-click the installation program to run it.
3. A WinZip Self-Extractor window opens. Click OK.
4. Another WinZip window opens. Click the Setup button.
5. A welcome window opens. Click Next.
6. Click the dot button beside "I accept the terms ..." and then click Next.
7. Choose Client Install and then click Next.
8. Choose Complete and then click Next.
9. Choose Unmanaged and click Next.
10. Do check Auto-Protect and if you have an Internet connection, do check Run LiveUpdate.
11. Click the Next button.
12. Click the Install button. Now wait. It takes time to copy and install the program files.
13. When the Welcome to LiveUpdate screen appears, click Next.
14. After LiveUpdate finishes downloading and installing, click the Finish button.

LiveUpdate Preferences - Daily Updates
Symantec Antivirus wants to update itself weekly. We suggest that you change that to daily.
1. Run the program. One way to do that is by double-clicking the small gold shield in the lower right corner of your screen by the time.
2. File menu
3. Choose Schedule Updates.
4. Enable scheduled automatic updates should be checked.
5. Click the Schedule button.
6. Choose Daily and pick a time when your computer is likely to be turned on.
7. Click OK.
8. The settings should look like this except the time will vary:
