Symantec Antivirus

IT purchased a license agreement to provide its Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (SAV) to the eligible members of the Skidmore College community at no charge.

If you have a notebook computer, you may bring it to the help desk on the first floor of Scribner Library. We can install SAV for you.

ATTENTION! Uninstall all other antivirus software (e.g. Sophos, McAfee, and other versions of Symantec/Norton AntiVirus) BEFORE installing this software. If you run your computer with two antivirus programs, it may crash and cause you to make extensive system software repairs.

Locate and remove your current antivirus program in Microsoft Windows:

  1. Go to Start
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Control Panel
  4. Select Add/Remove Programs
  5. Identify known antivirus software programs (ex. Sophos, McAfee, Norton, Symantec, and Computer Associates)
  6. Uninstall the software from computer
  7. Also look for older versions of LiveUpdate if you had Norton or Symantec. Remove that, too.

Eligibility guidelines:

The Symantec antivirus software is available free of charge for a computer owned by any College staff, faculty member, or student for personal use.

You must remove the software when you are no longer in one of these relationships with the College.
